Real Advice about Real Life from Open Advice

I found this article and thought it was a good start to helping with Holiday Blues.

Ten Ways to Beat the Holiday Blues
Beat out stress and sadness during the holidays…

1. Be realistic. A friend of mine says, “Reality is unavoidable.”
2. Create your own traditions.
3. Help others. Not because you should, but because it is the best antidote to self-pity and seasonal sadness.
4. Seek sacred space. Drop into a Christian church or Muslim mosque or Jewish synagogue or Hindu temple or . . . you get the idea.
5. Take care of your own temple: Your body. Eat well, drink a lot of water, exercise, and then be merry.
6. Be financially responsible. Don’t close your eyes the next time you use your credit card.
7. Breathe. Several times during your busy day, put down what you’re holding (in your hand or your head)-your shopping lists, your third cup of coffee, your date book, the phone call you should be making-and sit quietly for just 60 seconds.
8. Grieve. If a friend or family member has recently died honor their memory.
9. Forgive. Forgiveness is the salve that heals a broken spirit.
10. Love… everything. Love it all.

Resident Developer Sens

Hello Friends,

I hope everyone had a wonderful and tasty Thanksgiving.

This month’s column will be all about product quality. There are a lot of devs that pay more attention to how much they put in their catty and unfortunately don’t care all too much about the product quality. Using high kb textures and using many different textures for one item not only looks less appealing but shoots the kb amount through the roof. You might think not many pay attention to the kbs but I can guarantee you, a lot of people pass on a item because it is a high kb item and they will look for something that won’t have them load a room for eternity. To avoid losing sales is simple, watch the kbs of your textures and use as few textures as possible. Having better quality items will help your sales; remember best advertisement comes from happy customers. Personally I am a avid shopper and before I buy something I always check for kbs. I often passed on something because it was either too high in kbs or too many textures were used. Don’t assume the more items you put in the catalog the more you will sell. Patience is very important when deving. There can be 100 different variations of the same item but it doesn’t mean that all have the same quality. We all use our imagination on how we see an item, but in the end it’s the one that looks appealing and is low on kbs that will make you a sale. You put your name on this item; make sure that you make items that you can be proud of. Keeping kbs low is simple, check your textures before you use them, under 10kbs is a good texture. Also reuse the same texture if possible.

Most my rooms I try to use around 5 textures, for furniture 2-3 textures if I can. If you can finish a room under 1000 kbs you done great.

I hope this gave you some help in making the right choices.

I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas season, lots of happy times and a wonderful start into the New Year.

Please don’t be shy with sending topic requests and comments.

Until next month,

Sen

The Rainbows Bridge Poem

RainbowBridge.com

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…. Christmas Breakfast

Start Christmas morning with traditional holiday breads or a rich breakfast casserole

Yeast Breads

For an easy Christmas breakfast, bake yeast breads ahead of time and warm them up Christmas morning. Reheat them, still wrapped in aluminum foil, in a 300 degree F (150 degree C) oven for 30 minutes.

Casseroles

These hearty breakfast casseroles will keep everyone satisfied for a whole morning of gift-giving.

Quick Breads

Baking for a family of nibblers? Try a little pumpkin butter with any one of these muffins, scones, or fruit breads.
  • These can be baked and frozen at least a week in advance. Warm them up on Christmas morning in a 300 degree F (150 degree C) oven.
  • Allow 30 minutes or so to warm a frozen coffeecake, and 10 to 20 minutes for muffins.

Pies

Begin the day with pie! Most baked pies can be frozen for up to 6 months. Pumpkin pies should be enjoyed within six weeks.

A few important notes for making pies to freeze:

  • Brush the bottom crust with melted shortening before filling; bake as directed. When completely cooled, seal well with plastic wrap or foil.
  • To defrost, pop the frozen pie into a preheated 375 degree F (109 degree C) oven for about 45 minutes.

Christmas Flavors

Can’t get enough eggnog, gingerbread, peppermint, or pumpkin during the holidays? Serve up gingerbread pancakes, pumpkin waffles, or eggnog French toast.

Hot Drinks

Don’t forget the candy cane cocoa!
